About Donetsk
Donetsk is an
unusual green industrial city with the population of one million
people. A UNESCO listed city, as the best industrial city in the
world.
There are 140 museums.There are two large state regional museums
among them: Donetsk Regional Art Museum and the Donetsk Regional
Museum.
Among the most interesting sightseeings of Donetsk is
Mertsalov’s Palm. It is a representation of palm, forged from
steel by Alexei Mertsalov. The Palm has got Grand Prix Award at
the Paris International Industrial Exhibition in 1900. Standing
some 3.53 meter’s tall the Palm is sculpted from a single rail,
copies have already been placed in Ottawa and Hanover. For
diving enthusiasts a copy has even been placed divers under the
water near Cape Tarkhankut in the Crimea (Ukraine).
Further works of art can be seen throughout the city relating to
it’s heavy industrial background. The park of sculptures on
Pushkin boulevard is of particular interest having a common
interest of mythology and everyday life. One such monument is
the first ever to tribute the Beatles very close to the Donbass
Arena Stadium built in accordance to UEFA standards.
