The Crimea, land of Cossacks, the Black Sea and the Charge of
the Light Brigade
Day 01
Meet and transfer to the airport for a morning flight to
Simferopol, gateway to the Crimea. Transfer to Yalta by private
car to include a city tour. Livadia Palace, home of the last of
the Russian Tsars and made famous by the meeting held between
Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin to re-draw the map of Europe at
the Yalta conference, near the end of the war in 1945.

Day 02
Breakfast in the hotel. A full day excursion is included in
today’s activities taking in the battlefield site of Balaklava,
here, the Charge of the Light Brigade where 500 lost their lives
in the valley of death, with a mad charge at the heavy guns of
the Russian army. The fortified port city of Sevastapol, with
its secret underground submarine base is still home to the Black
Sea fleet. Along the way a stop at the picturesque “Swallows
Nest” a Gothic style castle in miniature precariously hanging to
the cliff face originally known as the Castle of Love. Return to
Yalta.

Day 03
Breakfast in the hotel. A day free to explore this town on your
own. Visit Chekov’s house, stroll along the sea front or we can
propose a half day visit to Nikitskiy Botanical Garden, well
worth a trip if you are interested in flora. From £39 per
person, based on 2 sharing a private car and English speaking
guide. Almost 200 years old it boasts some 1,700 types of trees
over 600 varieties of flowers and 250 species of Greenhouse
plants. Also the world’s largest collection of assorted roses.
If you are brave a taxi ride to the gardens and an entrance fee
of £3 per person can save on the costs.

Day 04
Breakfast in the hotel. Transfer to Simferopol airport flight to
Kiev to connect with your flight home or stay a few extra nights
in Kiev, we can meet you at the airport and transfer you to the
city centre and arrange for your stay.
